Press Democrat Interviews Students

As you walk in front of our school, you may notice a large log cross-section. This is from the 165 ft, 370 year old redwood tree that fell in a storm in 2003. On Thursday, a group of students put labels of national and local events on the tree matching the rings when the events took place.
A Press Democrat Reporter, Tobias Young, wanted to interview us students about the redwood tree. We didn't mind at all and happily seized the opportunity to tell the world about our school and its environmental programs.
The Press Democrat first got interested in the story through Michael "Bug" Deakin of Heritage Salvage in Petaluma who is currently helping with the sale of the milled redwood from the tree fallen back in 2003. It started out as a story on Bug, but quickly grew into a feature on our school and the cross-section from the tree. It made the front page of the Empire News section on November 27th. Student Lauren Janney said," It was lots of fun being interviewed by the press and a good opportunity to brag about the great things going on at Salmon Creek."
