Visit Petaluma Wildlife Museum
We just discovered a gem - the Petaluma Wildlife Museum and we have to share!
Located on the Petaluma High School campus, this student run musuem is open
to the public on Saturdays from 11:00 - 3:00pm. The museum houses 50 species
of animals, including aligators, lemurs, lizards and more.
It is founded on an innovative education theory: if you give high school students
as much responsibility and freedom as possible, they will rise to the challenge and succeed!
We agree! Students are able to take courses in Wildlife and Museum Management to learn
environmental education, wildlife biology, public speaking, operations and maintenance.
Students take care of the animals, musuem and conduct tours.
The early museum contents were donated to Ron Head, of Petaluma High School by Hugh Codding
to create an innovative educational program. Ron's dream was to give students career and
leadership skills through active participation in an environmental education program.
The dream is an amazing reality! You can support the growth and maintenance of the museum
by attending their fundraiser this Saturday 9/24 from 4-8pm. You can learn more, or make
donations through their website: www.petalumawildlifemuseum.com Phone 707.778.4787
